What I’ve learned about the act of writing:

  • That I love writing, but need to be clear about who I’m writing to and what I want to accomplish. I treat it like a project.

  • That I need to feel inspired to create a book, as I put my heart and soul into it.

  • That as I’ve matured, my confidence in my writing ability has grown and I lean into my creative muse.

  • Good research (if applicable to your book strategy) is priceless.

  • Never listen to the naysayers or over-advisors. They’re never your readers. Trust your gold.

  • To trust the reader to come to their own conclusions.

What I’ve learned about writing a book that builds your business:

  • Have a strategy before you start, decide your model and how you want to bring it to market.

  • Design your book (or books if a series) to fit into your revenue model or customer journey.

  • Look at how your topics or subject matter focus can build your authority and brand.

  • Be consistent with your topic, genre or audience so the same readers follow you book after book.

  • Retain a good editor over time who knows you and your voice.
